About
This website is made for the four sisters. You will remain unnamed, but you know who you are.
It is intended to be a private little spot on the Internet with the sole purpose of being a place where I can send you some occasional thoughts. I think of it as a quiet spot in the woods or a private cove on the lake. It is a place where, if we were sitting together in those spots, these are things that we might talk about. I have intentionally left out the mechanics that search engine tools use to find websites, so it will be available to you but likely will remain hidden to others. If it happens to be discovered or you decide to share it, that's fine. But that is not its intention.
The title of this blog is obviously a play on words. It is intended to be thoughts for four daughters. It is intended to encourage forethought about important issues; foresight for the times in which we live.
Were others to see the pictures below, they would envision an ideal, happy family. You know better. I really do not know what happened. I only know that we live in a world with horrifically harsh forces. Those forces do not like happy people, happy families or anything that is left uncorrupted. Even so, I still believe there is a river of God's grace that will engulf us if we let it, whether or not we understand His purposes.
If the universe extends from the nature and being of its Creator, as I believe it does, then it takes on a form that reflects its Creator. The essence of life is learning to respect that form and the Creator it represents. It is impossible to escape, and futile to resist. Just as an airliner must take a certain shape to become and stay airborne, and just as one must be mindful of the law of gravity when standing at the edge of a roof, we have this universal form all around us. Its principles are eternal and unchanging. Our regard for them, or lack of it, has a great bearing on the blessings or hardships that come our way.
I recently began the task of going through all the pictures I inherited from our family archives. It made me aware of how time passes relentlessly even though it seems to move slowly. One thing I realized was that handing down pictures is not the same thing as handing down thoughts. Those pictures raised many questions for me --- questions which now will never have an answer, for those who would know the answers are no longer here. It made me realize that maybe I should provide some content for questions that you may not have now, but most likely will in the future.
You are all beginning to be dispersed, and it occurred to me that this might be a convenient way to pass thoughts along to you. There is very, very much to reflect on in this life, and I often grow restless and frustrated until I sit down and write out thoughts that are stirring within. The thoughts here aren't intended to be a systematic theological or philosophical statement, just reflections on various issues as they occur to me, and a way for you to know a bit more of your Dad's mind if you so choose. My idea is to bring up issues that I believe you will sooner or later encounter as life goes on, but this may become a place that serves for other content as well. Who knows. A thread of thought may happen to continue within a given topic, so I will number them and sort them into categories to provide some sense of order to it all. And, of course, this is just a filler for the times when you are at a distance. It is always much more satisfying to have you near.
